“Where can I buy Scotch eggs?”
Question for you. Have you ever tried to describe a Scotch egg to someone who’s never had one? As the words come out of your mouth, you start to realise the bizarre nature of the British snack classic.
Regardless of whether a hard-boiled egg encased in sausage meat and deep-fried in breadcrumbs is or isn’t the invention of lunatic, it’s fair to say they are very popular with Brits. However here in Melbourne (and in Australia generally) they are nowhere near as readily available as they are back in Blighty.
By no means is this an exhaustive list, but here’s a few places we know of where you can get your hands on a Scotch egg.
Coburg Farmers Market (Coburg Primary School, 92 Bell Street, Coburg, VIC 3058)
Carlton Farmers Market (6054/60 Lee Street, Carlton North, VIC 3054)
Eltham Farmers Market (1-18 Arthur Street, Eltham, VIC 3095)
Alphington Farmers Market (Melbourne Innovation Centre, 2 Wingrove Street, Alphington, VIC 3078)
Gasworks Farmers Market (Gasworks Arts Park, 21 Graham Street, Albert Park, VIC 3206)
EuroFood Wholesale (8/291 Wickham Road, Moorabbin, VIC 3189 - and online order)
The Lion & Wombat (107 Grey Street, St Kilda, VIC 3182 - it’s one of their menu items)
The Pig & Whistle Tavern (365 Purves Road, Main Ridge, VIC 3928 - it’s part of one of their menu items)
