The Local Taphouse – St Kilda East

A true icon of the area, The Local Taphouse has great food, impressive beers and a rooftop bar for those summer afternoons.

In the quest to find a traditional Sunday roast in Melbourne that really cuts the (English) mustard, ‘The Local Taphouse’ in St Kilda East may just lay claim to being the anointed one.

They say that you have to kiss a few few frogs to find your prince. When it comes to kissing frogs (i.e. trying roast dinners in and around Melbourne), this Editor has been very loose with his lips over the years. From overcooked veg to rubbery roasties, the fayre being served up at most places was a limp imitation of the British Sunday classic. However, a trip the The Local Taphouse restored one’s faith in Melbourne’s ability to service the ex-pat community.

Your mouth waters just looking at it.

Served every Sunday until sold out, the roast changes on a weekly basis but always remains at a very reasonable $27. Add on top of that one of the finest selections of craft beers and ales you’ll find this side of the Yarra, and you’re laughing.

If you’ve not yet visited The Local Taphouse in St Kilda East, then you should make it a priority. The roast will get you through the colder months while the rooftop bar is a summertime favourite with the locals.
